how do you update the past when there are old pictures like this out there.

How do you update the past? Well, some of it?

It’s nothing magical and while you can’t fix photos like the one above of me in 2005, you can keep an aspects of older posts from the past relevant and up to date. From simply updating call to action sections, to adding more recent links, to altering and adding certain phrases, you can keep the past in the past, but still have aspects of it point to the present or the future.

How do you update the past? Stop thinking its not editable!

Remember when you posted that video on YouTube, that picture on Instagram, that blog on WordPress?

They are all still accessible! And while you may not be able to alter an image or a video, the content, the signatures, the call to actions and links can be adjusted and updated. Don’t think about the idea of your past content being set in stone, cause it isn’t!

How do you update the past? A little at a time!

Once a day, hit a blog, a video, a photo or something from the past and give it the right links, the updated signature and the correct direction. Because, if someone finds that piece of content and clicks through on a dead link or reads old information, why should they have to or want to dig further to find out more?

By taking the initiative to update, alter and fix these small pieces for five or ten minutes a day, you will help with the message, the direction, your brand and even your online search engine optimization of these different pieces of content.

How do you update the past? Simply point the past to the present where you can.

Point people in the right direction! Have you switched your title, then change it across the board for the uniform branding across the board! Add content to explain how the info in the video might be a little different or how this is a little older.

By taking these steps, you will make it that much easier for people to engage and connect with you as you update the past in a way that keeps that content or at least the signatures, call to actions and links updated for the here and now.
